NY Times: “Still Creating Otherwordly Adventures”
This is an interesting article about Douglas Trumbull, who is responsible for the special FX on 2001, Bladerunner and Tree of Life, among others. He feels that frame rate is key to a heightened experience…I’m curious to discuss this in class.

‘The Story of Film: An Odyssey,’ by Mark Cousins, at MoMA
This is showing at MoMA through 2/16 but it’s 15 hours long…I suppose we can wait for the DVD?

Hanna’s farmed videos
I’ve been a fan of Los Angeles-based artist Jeana Sohn’s lifestyle/fashion blog for a while and find her experiments in video to be accessible while creating lots of mood with editing and sound.
Here’s one that quickly creates a sense of fear and horror:
Here is another video that was conceived and co-directed by Jeana Sohn. This one is much more produced. I love the visuals, the narrative concept, the melding of fashion and art.
And for a recent music video favorite: Call Your Girlfriend by Robyn. Everyone who watches it comments on how simple the setting is (and the dancing as well) yet how compelling the video is.
